My name is Matthew Waugh and I work as a First Officer for Mesa Air Group flying the might Bombardier CL-65. I have been a flight instructor for a number of years, and I'm always interested in helping people take the first steps to learn to fly.

Why Learn to Fly?

Imagine taking your family or some friends to the beach for a day, without the long drive and fighting the traffic? From the Raleigh-Durham area you can be in Myrtle Beach, Wilmington or Virginia Beach in a little over an hour. Land close to the beach with friendly people at the airport office who will often give you ride over to the beach and pick you up. Leave home at 8:00AM, spend all day at the beach, even have dinner and be back home without making it a late night (for you or the kids). With your Private Pilot's license, you can make that dream a reality.

Got business in Washington DC or Atlanta? You know what a hassle it is flying the airlines for a short hop like that, and these days it's even worse with the extra security. You spend more time going through security than you do in the air, not to mention parking, getting to your rental car at the other end and fighting through the traffic from an airline airport not located near your meeting. Well become a pilot and make business trips a breeze. You can leave on your schedule, you don't have to wait for the convenience of the airlines, even assuming they're on time. Pick up your rental car right outside where you land (used to be they brought the rental car to the plane, try asking United to do that) and fly into a conveniently located General Aviation airport much closer to your destination. You can replace those long hassle ridden airline trips with quicker, more convenient personal aviation flying when you have your Private Pilot's license.

Want to get away for the weekend? How about Charleston, SC, Atlantic City, NJ or Nashville, TN. All these are in easy reach for a pilot from Raleigh-Durham. Replace a long drive on crowded roads, or an inconvenient airline trip with making the journey in your own, or a rented, plane. Leave Friday evening and arrive at your destination refreshed and in plenty of time for a late dinner and a night-cap. Spend all day Saturday and Sunday exploring your destination and return, on your schedule, Sunday evening. If you don't mind rising early you can leave early Monday morning and still be at work for that 9:00AM meeting. Weekend getaways, where you spend the whole weekend resting and relaxing is in reach when you have your Private Pilot's license.

Now we see what flexibility you can gain from your Private Pilot's certificate let's look at some more information on Flight Training.
