Flight Tools

A handy one page pre-flight sheet  (EXCEL) that makes sure you've gathered all the information you need before you fly. Covers Weight and Balance and departure, destination and alternate performance data. Here's an improved version of the same information for Aircraft Dispatch (WORD). Here's another form of Trip Log (WORD).

To go with your pre-flight planning here is a handy cross-wind component calculator - I cut this down to size and laminated it to keep with me.

If it's not written down I can't handle it, so here's an ATIS and Clearance sheet I use for getting in and out of Raleigh-Durham airport. Change the frequencies (or ignore the ones on this sheet) and it'll work for any airport.

For en-route work I use this Flight Notes sheet to track altitudes, frequencies etc. I don't have a flight log sheet. Mainly I try and get a print-out from DUATs of the flight log, even if it's a no-wind version. Failing that I grab whatever flight log template I can find and fill it out.

For the written test I use a basic E-6B and I made a couple of notes on the way to calculate a few thing in my E-6B Notes (I have no idea here this file went - I've left this as a placeholder in the hopes that someday I find it again - sorry) document. This is not a manual, half the information on how to calculate things is written on the computer itself, these are just some things I needed to remember.
